Dr. Ivana Prkačin

Doc. dr. sc. Ivana Prkačin, dr. med. was born in Split on June 24, 1984, where she completed elementary school and First Language Gymnasium. In 2003, dr. Prkačin enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb from which she graduated in 2009. In 2010, upon completion of the mandatory internship as a general practitioner at the community medical centre of Split-Dalmatia county, she passed the expert exam before the examination committee of Croatia’s Ministry of Health.

In February 2011, dr. Prkačin started her residency in the field of dermatology and venerology at the Clinic for Skin and Venereal Diseases at the University Hospital Centre "Sestre milosrdnice". During her residency, in the academic year 2012/2013, she attended the professional postgraduate study in dermatovenerology and in the same year she enrolled in the postgraduate doctoral study Biomedicine and health sciences at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zagreb.

Upon the completion of her specialist studies, dr. Prkačin was employed as a specialist at the Clinic for Skin and Venereal Diseases at the University Hospital Centre "Sestre milosrdnice", where she presently works.

At the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Medicine she discussed the thesis titled "The incidence of BRAF gene mutation in dysplastic nevus and melanoma in situ", under the mentorship of the academician Mirna Šitum and her colleague Ivan Šamija. Her scientific and professional interests lay within dermatologic oncology and medical cosmetology.

On October 23, 2019, the resident committee adopted the proposal of the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Dental Medicine at the University of Zagreb and elected dr. Prkačin as a research associate.

Dr. Prkačin has published approximately 20 scientific and research articles in numerous scientific journals, being the author or co-author, along with 30 congress communications in abstract books. She held a teaching program in dermatovenerology at the Mlinarska School for nurses and participated in the organization of various congresses and symposiums of the Clinic for Skin and Venereal Diseases at the University Hospital Centre "Sestre milosrdnice". Dr. Prkačin has attended numerous training programs in dermatovenerology organized by the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) and obtained an EADV scholarship for residents in dermatovenerology.
